2 DAY PICTURE RESEARCH WORKSHOP

All courses offered by LSP are practical in nature, and provide an overview of a particular publishing function so that course delegates can make informed career choices. The training aims to thoroughly prepare delegates for their roles as publishing professionals, whether as full-time staff or as freelancers - in functions such as traditional editing and proofing, subbing, picture researching, feature writing as well as skills in electronic publishing in areas such as QuarkXPress, InDesign and Photoshop.

Since our inception in 1984, the courses have attracted thousands of participants, some of whom are sent by their employers for training - please refer to the partial client list in the brochure. A large number of delegates, however, approach us independently of employer sponsorship, in order to gain new or additional skills and usually to enter or to develop publishing careers.

Courses are run three times a year, starting in: February (Winter term), May (Summer) and October (Autumn term). Most run over ten weeks in the evening – 6.30pm – 8.30pm, once a week, on a particular designated evening . The electronic publishing courses (Quark XPress, InDesign, Photoshop, PageMaker, Illustrator, HTML, Dreamweaver, Flash, FrontPage & Writing for the Web) are run during the daytime for a duration of two or three days.

Course delegates are awarded a Certificate that is Approved and Recognised by the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning (ITOL). In addition to ITOL Approval, Certificates issued for the Picture Research course also have BAPLA and DACS approval - on successful completion of a course. We have three intakes in a year: Summer (May), Autumn (October) and Winter (February).

LSP course delegates can apply for the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) membership and Press Pass (it is recommended that applications are made during the course and approval is at the discretion of the NUJ).
